Alicante Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional de Alicante), (IATA: ALC, ICAO:
LEAL), located at El Altet, is the main airport for the Province of Alicante
and the Region of Murcia. It is located within the municipality of Elche, its
facilities lying just 9 km southwest of Alicante. It is the busiest airport in
the Valencian Community.
Ryanair, the largest European low cost airline has established a base at the
airport. Ryanair has nine aircraft based and will serve 59 routes from
Alicante. Last year it was sixth busiest airport by passenger numbers in Spain
and one of the 50 busiest in Europe. The largest number of passengers is
carried by Ryanair, followed by EasyJet then Air Berlin is the distant third.
